Cleveland in 1905, the year our alumni chapter was chartered, was considered the Silicon Valley of the industrial era with some of the best steel, chemical and industrial companies in the world lead by some of the biggest names in American industry. In this environment, it is no surprise that the Alumni chapter met monthly at the prestigious Union Club located on Euclid Avenue. Many of the brothers were graduates of East Coast and state universities. By the 1950s, Cleveland was at the height of its industrial economy with more Fortune 500 companies located here than in any other city outside of New York. The alumni chapter meetings had migrated to the Engineering Society located in the Standard Building on Public Square. Many of the members at this time were engineering and technical graduates of local and state universities. By the late 70’s, much of Cleveland’s population had moved to the suburbs and industry was leaving the area. A decision was made by the brotherhood to leave the Engineering Society and travel down Euclid Avenue to the University Club. Membership ebbed and waned over the coming decades and by the late 80’s the chapter existed in name only. In the 1990’s Zeta Lambda alumni Joe Gross and Don Stallard reached out to other brothers with the intent of reigniting the chapter. Meetings were held infrequently at brothers’ homes until membership reached a point where it became feasible to find a local watering hole for our monthly meeting. Since 2010 we have met every second Thursday of the month at the Prosperity Social Club in Tremont and recently, meetings have been held at Slyman's in Independence. Alumni brothers come from all over Northeast Ohio to share dinner, a drink, and the bonds of brotherhood. In June 2025, the alumni chapter was awarded Gold Level, Outstanding Alumni Chapter Award, one of only ten given out. Chapter membership includes brothers from chapters of local universities as well as a significant number of alumni from chapters throughout the country.
Originally established over 100 years ago, the Cleveland Sigma Chi Alumni chapter is one of our oldest alumni chapters, and also one of the most dedicated in upholding the standards of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Our fraternity strives to promote friendship, justice, and learning as the exemplification of our brotherhood and to inspire a lifelong commitment to serve our families, friends, and the communities in which we live and work. Whether you are a recent graduate, recently retired, or somewhere in between we invite you to join us and re-experience a bond of brotherhood that may have been left behind after graduation. We encourage you to take time to explore this site: Look at photos from recent and past events, visit your undergraduate chapter’s website via the links page, check out our upcoming events, or pay your dues online. Be sure to stop by our monthly meeting and rediscover what you’ve been missing.
Sigma Chi is proud to boast it has the most committed alumni members in the Greek world. Alumni throughout North America demonstrate their commitment to Sigma Chi by volunteering their time to enhance the experience of undergraduate brothers. Alumni volunteers provide housing, advise chapter officers, and serve as personal and professional mentors. It is in this spirit that the Cleveland Alumni Chapter raises funds through its activities to support the Children’s Miracle Network, Huntsman Cancer Institute, and other local charities in the Northeast Ohio area.
The Children's Miracle Network (CMN) was established nationally in 1983 to help children by actively supporting improved health care for millions of young people around the world. CMN's mission is to generate funds and awareness programs for the benefit of children served by its associated hospitals, now numbering more than 170 nationwide.
Huntsman Cancer Institute's mission is to understand cancer from its beginnings, to use that knowledge in the creation and improvement of cancer treatments, to relieve the suffering of cancer patients, and to provide education about cancer risk, prevention, and care.
National Sigma Ch Fraternity, Member Engagement Committee, has awarded Gold Level to Sigma Chi Cleveland Alumni Chapter during this summer's Grand Chapter held in Colorado. We were one of only ten chapters to be honored. Our chapter is strong and growing. Isn't it time you attended a gathering?

Brothers band together to make it happen! When the stain glass window in the stairway of the Kent house was damaged, could not be repaired and needed replaced, James Roden stepped up and designed the window. With the help of Brother David Parrish, searched for a stain glass artesian and collected donations to build the new window. Want to know the names of the brothers who donated? A plaque is mounted next to the window. Stop by the house and view the piece of art added to the 125+ year old house.
